A standard home inspection only covers components that are visible and readily accessible. We can run water and look for signs of backups or leaks, but many drain line issues can’t be identified this way. Sewer drain lines are typically hidden underground and are outside the scope of a standard inspection. We do offer a Sewer Lateral Pipe Scope Inspection as an add-on service. This involves placing a camera inside the main sewer lateral to uncover hidden issues such as cracked or crushed pipes, blockages, offsets, or low spots. These problems can be very costly to repair, which is why we strongly recommend this inspection before purchasing a home. Please note that this inspection only covers the larger sewer lateral pipes extending from the home to the public sewer line or private septic system, not smaller waste arms.
